Verbal meaning: Transfer – you start at one point and end at another. Day – from sunrise to sunset.
But what does it actually mean? It means hanging lots of notes with new insights on our virtual refrigerator, so that we can remain in proximity to the verbal meaning next time.
- In transfer days, you wear close sandals, rather than flipflops that leave your feet in every chance they get
- Complacency is the root of all evil. Even though we carry limited amount of equipment and know what goes into which bag, next time – start packing at least half an hour earlier
- And speaking of complacency – you may want to order big taxi in advance if you are to transfer six people with their carriage to catch a flight, because those are not just driving around waiting to be picked up
- It is OK that each of us have their roles and there is one that normally handles the bookings, but next time, we should make sure that the one that doesn’t, at least knows when and where to arrive – just in case we go on two different taxis, after failing to find one that is big enough (see former section), when we leave late to the airport (see two sections ago)
- And also in that matter – set a rendezvous in advance (at least until we both have phones with local sim cards)
- It is really embarrassing that we still need a reminder, but you cannot take creams or ointments in packages of over 100 ml, especially not such that were bought especially for this trip and now they are very hard to find 🙁
- Food – it’s true that we ate a couple of toasts for breakfast and took a package of crackers for the road. But there are six of us and we have three travel segments ahead of us (flight, bus and boat), each takes at least an hour and a half, between which there is additional wait time. You could find something to eat along the way (and it may even be reasonable), but you should not count on it. Moreover, it is very likely to be overpriced.
- Music – a great way to keep calm during travels. One should only make sure that the media players’ batteries a properly loaded and that one has extra headset and divider. One should also remember to put the extra headset back into the bag at the end of the ride, just to maintain the functionality of the divider
- When I get slapped, I’m hurt. Being a mother that needs to serve as a bandage to others’ bruises, your own bruises should recover more rapidly and peacefully than theirs.
- Know where you came from and where you are going. It is much easier to move to a new place when you have a pre-known address, even if it’s just for the first night, and even better – if you have transportation arrangements setup in advance, like a car that is included in the house rent. It might be a good idea to make sure that the car and its keys are collocated as it may shorten arrival to destination in about an hour.
- When the day ends in Koh Phangan, then getting the slower ferry after paying for the faster one is not that bad, as long as you end up in your destination.
